Does the DPDP Act apply to individuals like me?

Plain-English Statutory Answer

As an individual you are a Data Principal, so the Act mainly gives you rights: to know what data is held about you, correct or erase it, complain, and nominate someone to exercise your rights if you cannot. You also have a few duties, such as not filing false complaints or impersonating someone else.

The Act does not apply to you when you handle personal data purely for personal or domestic purposes, for example keeping your family's phone contacts.
